6 ideas of how you could collaborate with brands

  1. Become brand ambassadors/representatives/enthusiasts on Instagram. Build up your following and work out your niche, then you can apply for brand rep searches. These searches are advertised on the businesses Instagram feed and come with a set of instructions on how to apply. Most brands, if they like the photos you have taken of their product, will feature your picture on their Instagram page. Some brands will also feature you on their website and/or Etsy. Keep a record of all of your features, just like I have done below in this portfolio page. This gives you a portfolio of work you have already done that you can show to brands. These can often turn into collaborations if you are a keen representative, good at advertising their items, good at taking pictures and support their business. 2. Reach out to brands to collaborate. Once you have built up your following, you can write to brands, whether that be small business owners, such as on Instagram, or larger companies. It is best to interact with their social media in the lead up to this and continuing doing so to show your interest in their brand. These collaborations could take the form of a gifted product to advertise or a paid post, but either way, you may then feature on that brand’s website and/or social media. Watch this space for a blog post dedicated to pitching to brands.
  3. Some brands just liked to be tagged in a photo that happens to have their product in, just like in picture 1 below. Whatever your child/you are wearing, eating or playing with, tag that shop and you may get featured on their page for free. This may also lead to future collaborations so keep your photos professional.
  4. There are lots of apps and websites, such as TRIBE and Instahash, that you can join with a certain amount of followers and engagement. Companies post their briefs and if your niche fits it, you can apply. Application can take the form of just showing interest as your social media details are already logged into the app for the brand to look at. Or, it may involve you taking a picture linked to the brief, and if the brand choose your picture, you need to post it on your social media as per their brief, and they will pay you for it. Watch this space for a blog post dedicated to working with brands in this way.
  5. Sponsored posts come from the above. Once you have established a connection with a brand, and perhaps have done a few unpaid collaborations (this isn’t always necessary if you’re engagement and followers are excellent), then you could ask for or be asked to do sponsored posts; these are paid posts that a brand asks you to review/write about a certain topic. Watch this space for a blog post dedicated to sponsored posts.
  6. Gifted collaborations are the most common for up and coming influencers. Brands, big and small, send you products to review and show off on your social media. These could lead to bigger collaborations. Watch this space for a blog post dedicated to gifted posts and see this post for examples of our collaborations.
